Assistant Superintendent

The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the lead Superintendent with the overall day-to-day management of the construction site on an assigned project, executing field operations in a manner consistent with the Company objectives. The Assistant Superintendent collaborates with others to address issues of jobsite safety, constructability, and performance to the established schedule and project plan.

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Superintendent to contribute to and support the field operations of a condominium project in Toronto. Previous residential experience is not necessary but considered an asset.

  • Assists with the directing of subcontractors and hourly labour workforce.
  • Assists in developing the site plan including; public safety measures; site security; truck routing (inbound and outbound); plan and develop logistics for and overall personnel and material movement within the site.
  • Ensures work is completed in accordance with quality standards and contract specifications.
  • Monitors progress of work on-site, site instructions and change notices.
  • Reviews construction drawings and may update as-builts.
  • Promotes and enforces Bird Safety Program and site cleanliness.
  • Attends project meetings and participates in Company training programs.
  • Maintains daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates and e-mail correspondence to ensure team and other necessary people are kept in the loop regarding project issues, resolutions and progress.
  • You have demonstrated competence in the areas of safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality and administration. 
  • You have at least 5 – 10 years progressive experience in the general contracting industry in commercial construction with expert level knowledge in means and methods of construction (high-rise construction experience is preferred).
  • Degree or Diploma in a construction related field or Journeyman status in a building trade (i.e. Carpentry). 
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Excellent planning and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with a variety of people such as subcontractors, clients, suppliers, project teams and individual employees.
  • Effective at building collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Solid understanding of Ontario Building Code, OHSA and other pertinent and relevant legislation.
