MARK OBTAINED A BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH HONOURS DEGREE IN HISTORY FROM BROCK UNIVERSITY IN 1986. HE GRADUATED FROM QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY IN 1988 WITH HIS MASTER OF ARTS IN AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY. HE ALSO COMPLETED THE QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS EXECUTIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR OPERATIONS LEADERSHIP. 



Prior to joining Bird in 2011 as national safety director, Mark enjoyed a 20-year career in the Ontario public service industry culminating in his role as vice president of the prevention division at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), where he was responsible for managing the province's workplace health and safety system. In his current capacity at Bird, Mark provides strategic oversight and operational leadership to the health and safety, human resource and corporate social responsibility program portfolios. 

Working closely with senior management, operations leadership, and front-line management and workers, Mark is committed to the pursuit of organizational excellence and positive community engagement through the creation of an organizational culture that values and supports continuous improvement, ongoing personal and professional growth, and development, all within a healthy and safe work environment. 

He is currently a member of the board of directors for the Institute for Work and Health and is a past member of the Ministry of Labour's Expert Advisory Panel on Performance Indicators.
