Brave the Shave

As Originally Seen In the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's Success Stories:

Brave the Shave is one of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Prairies/NWT Region’s most popular fundraising events. It’s always a fun event that shows incredible dedication to a future without breast cancer. Most often, people shave their heads or cut off a significant length of hair to donate for wigs for cancer patients, but Adam Rice in Winnipeg has other plans.

With October being Breast Cancer ACTION Month, Adam wanted to put together an event that could help support breast cancer research. After a bit of searching, Adam decided to organize a Brave the Shave event on October 30, 2015. Not only is Adam’s hair on the line, but so is the bushy, brown beard that he has been growing for the past 11 months.

Adam’s mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer approximately five years ago, inspired Adam to take up this challenge. Adam felt the need to take action when he realized through his mother’s experience how breast cancer touches so many women of all ages. “Until you know someone, you might not be aware,” says Adam about his need to spread awareness.

Adam’s workplace, Bird Construction, is supporting the breast cancer cause with pink hard hats, pink gloves and stickers. Pink ribbons and pink ladies are also available to help promote awareness. Bird also hosted a $10 per plate fundraising BBQ on-site last Friday, raising $2,470 to Adam’s shave. The Brave the Shave event will take place at Bird Construction, and his colleagues and associates will all be cheering him on.

Adam’s goal is to raise $10,000 by his October 30, 2015 deadline. If Adam hits his ultimate goal of $20,000 he will go beardless and bald!

If you would like to support Adam, you can donate to his Brave the Shave Challenge.
