Education Minister & Media Tour - Saskatchewan Schools Project

Deputy Premier and Education Minister of Saskatchewan, Don Morgan, toured the 170,000-square-foot Stonebridge School for 1,500 students in Saskatoon on Tuesday, September 13. The Minister’s tour was part of a two day media event in Regina and Saskatoon. There was a good representation of print and TV journalists and their news reports were very positive. Ian Boyd, our CEO attended the tour. Ian remarked that “the dignitaries present were extremely complimentary of Bird’s performance on this project, both in terms of the physical progress on the site, but also the collaborate approach that the team has adopted.”

Bird Capital holds a 25% share of the equity in the project in partnership with Concert Infrastructure. The media tours were led by Ian Podmore of Concert along with Bird-Wright Project Director, Neal Lade.

Bird is the managing partner of the Bird-Wright Joint Venture responsible for construction of the project. The Bird-Wright team have done an amazing amount of work in just 12 months. The schools are projected for an on-time completion in June 2017.

The project includes three sites in Regina and six sites in the Saskatoon area. Each site includes both a Catholic and a public elementary school which share some facilities such as gymnasia and multipurpose rooms. The entire project encompasses over 1.3-million-square-feet.

Usually when you get a lot of people involved in designing anything, if they want to design a horse, they come up with a camel, but this time they came up with something that works beautifully,” Regina Catholic School Board Chair Frank Flegel said.
