NLCSA Award for Best Safety Innovation

As you may remember, on October 18, 2016 we shared with you a story that Bird (formerly H.J. O'Connell) was the CNESST’s (the provincial authority for all occupational health and safety standards in Quebec) successful nominee for Greater Montreal and this year’s finalist for the provincial awards competition in Quebec City for its lockout safety innovation.

This outstanding innovation was developed by the maintenance department to help eliminate the risk associated with that residual energy during maintenance, so the team created lock mechanisms that can be installed on the pedals of excavating equipment during maintenance. This lock eliminates the machine’s ability to be set into motion, including reverse controls.

On February 16, 2017, Bird attended the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association (NLCSA) Health and Safety Conference. The conference brings together all the major players from the construction industry in the province, as well as clients that frequently employ construction companies in the province.

We are pleased to announce Bird is once again a winner for its innovation. On behalf of Bird, Nolan Jenkins, Senior Vice President, accepted the NLCSA’s Award for Best Safety Innovation for 2016. Winning two provincial awards in the same year shows exactly how innovative this concept is, and its development and implementation in the field will greatly enhance the already outstanding safety culture within the company. Let’s keep the good ideas flowing!

Congratulations to the entire team!
