Bird Welcomes Three More Members to the 25 Year Club

During an evening celebration on Thursday, June 22 with staff, as well as families and friends of the honourees, we welcomed three recent retirees from our Edmonton district as new members into our 25 Year Club: Debbie Goodhue, Frank Kemper and Wayne Aasland.

A little background on the 25 Year Club — it began in 1956 by our founder, Hubert Bird, as he wanted a way to recognize the employees that helped persevere with the company during the early years. It was their loyalty that helped see the company through tough times.

Debbie, Frank and Wayne join the club as the 183rd, 184th and 185th members. Debbie is also the ninth female to get inducted into the club — she joins Carmen Ip from the Vancouver district, who celebrated this milestone earlier this year.

On hand to welcome the new members into the club were 10 current 25 Year Club members: Randy Toronchuk, Karen Hennig, Lino Rodrigues, Jan Lambert, Dave Toronchuk, Don Cameron, Art Birkholz, Tony Rodrigues, Al McCulloch and from our 50 Year Club, Lynn Hanna, pictured below with the new Edmonton inductees.
Joining me for the celebration from the corporate office was Mark Dreschel, SVP, organizational excellence and Teri McKibbon, chief operating officer. Edmonton safety manager Nidal Naaman, served as MC for the evening, providing some good laughs that of course were at the expense of several people in attendance including Gilles Royer, EVP industrial and Tony Rodrigues, superintendent, to name a few. We also heard from Edmonton VP Greg Madziong, Gilles and Arthur Krehut, SVP, as they introduced Wayne, Frank and Debbie, respectively. All three honourees were presented with a customary 25 Year Club watch and a glass plaque, as well as extremely well done caricatures.

I am always so proud to see this tradition being upheld in our culture and to see employees enjoy a long, satisfying and challenging career with the company. Again, everyone at Bird would like to thank Debbie, Frank and Wayne for their accomplishments and service over their 25 years at Bird. Thank you!
