Bird Wins Ontario Builder Award

Bird Construction has been awarded the Ontario General Contractors Association's (OGCA) Ontario Builder Award for its Ontario Provincial Police modernization project. With 18 facilities in 16 communities, the Ontario Provincial Police modernization project consists of three unique building types and over 27,000 square metres of construction. Valued at over $200 million, the project achieved substantial completion in November 2012 and included the construction of new detachments, regional command centres and forensic identification units — all of which are targeting LEED Silver certification.

OGCA judged projects based on factors such as on-site safety, environmental impact, and owner satisfaction. Bird and its partners will accept their awards in April at the OGCA’s construction symposium in Collingwood, Ontario.

Bird also received honourable mention from the OGCA for the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. The centre is the first stand-alone, LEED Gold certified performing arts centre in Ontario. Construction included a 720-seat main theatre, a 260-seat studio theatre and a multi-purpose space for receptions and city events.
