To further facilitate the continued growth of Bird Construction, we have made further adjustments to our corporate management structure. We are pleased to announce that the following appointments will take place effective immediately.

Ian Boyd is appointed to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. For the past three years, Ian has been involved with the H.J. O’Connell operations as they joined the Bird organization. He joined Bird in 2008 when we acquired Rideau Construction. As a valued member of our team, Ian will continue to play an important role in Bird’s growth.

Jim Brennan assumes responsibility for H.J. O’Connell, Limited as Senior Vice President of Bird, relinquishing his responsibility for the Halifax and Saint John districts. He will assist with the transition of management at O’Connell. As a founder of Rideau Construction, Jim joined Bird in 2008 with the completion of the Rideau transaction. 

Matt Ainley will add the role of Vice President for Halifax and Saint John to his current responsibility of Vice President National and Strategic Development. Since joining Bird in early 2012, Matt has proven himself as a valuable asset to the company. Over his 30 years in the industry, Matt has progressed from a superintendent to president and chief operating officer of a large Ontario-based contractor. 

Durck deWinter is appointed to the role of Vice President Strategic Development Atlantic Canada. He will work with the Atlantic team to further grow Bird’s business. Durck joined Bird through the completion of the Rideau acquisition in 2008. With many years of experience in the Atlantic construction market, Durck will draw upon his knowledge and contacts as he actively pursues valued added projects and services to add to our construction portfolio.

Andrew Sly is appointed to the position of District Manager of Nason. Managing Bird’s recent acquisition, Andrew will work closely with staff to further expand Nason’s business. Over the past 10 years, Andrew has taken on progressively more challenging roles including project manager and construction director at Bird. His background with water and wastewater projects, and the experience gained on industrial projects makes Andrew a great fit for this assignment. 

Scott Mugridge is appointed to the role of District Manager for Saint John. With over 20 years with Bird and its predecessor companies, Scott has worked in various roles to prepare him for this position. Most recently, he spent a number of years as chief estimator in Saint John, later assuming the role as production manager to broaden his skill set.
