Canadian Forces Base Shilo Fitness Centre

As construction at the Shilo fitness facility progressed, many unanticipated conditions were uncovered in the existing building including the presence of asbestos, structural reinforcing damage, failed equipment, and other safety hazards. The team was quick to respond to these challenges, expediting sound and timely solutions to ensure the project schedule was maintained.

Other issues involved working through a rain-soaked summer that contributed to excessive moisture levels in the concrete floor slabs. By facilitating an earlier installation and commissioning of the building’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning system, Bird was able to quickly expedite a return to acceptable moisture levels in the floor slab.
