At the onset of construction, the team was faced with a condensed schedule. Typically, foundation work is completed by early fall to allow construction to continue during the cold winter months. Due to budgeting adjustments prior to construction, Bird began the foundations in September with only one month to complete the work before the temperatures dropped in Fort Nelson. Bird presented cost savings to the owner including alternate metal cladding, aluminum feeders instead of copper, and ware plates a quarter-inch less thicker than originally specified.
In addition, the team was also challenged by the occupied site as the repair shop and the office remained operational during construction. As a result of Bird’s unwavering ability to successfully complete challenging projects, the Finning facility expansion was completed on time and on budget.
