The centre includes an aquatic centre with three pools, one NHL-sized ice surface with 1,200 person seating capacity, a public library and active living spaces. The building is LEED Gold certified and green features include geothermal heating and cooling, solar heating for the pools, white roof, low maintenance landscaping and rainwater retention system.
Construction of the building consists mainly of shallow foundations bearing on bedrock, structural steel framing with corrugated metal siding, aluminum composite panel and aluminum glazing curtain exterior walls. To ensure proper construction, Bird was responsible to pass an infiltration/leakage air tests and a thermal scan of the building for heat loss. These tests have been confirmed and Bird met each set goal.
