The 6,500 cubic yard concrete coker structure was constructed with access only from one end and included a 3,500 cubic yard monolithic base. The base required 350 truck loads of concrete, four pumps and was completed in 14 hours with commendations from the client for its successful execution.

The elevated portion of the coker went through the winter under heated enclosure in a congested work area. The lack of lay down space required significantly more planning and coordination. An additional elevated structure, the vacuum tower, involved a ring beam atop 12 columns that were over 63 feet high. Bird simultaneously completed the concrete and shallow underground piping work in the nearby sulphur block under separate contract.
