When are student opportunities posted?

We hire students throughout the year. The three main hiring cycles will have students joining us in January, May or September. We recommend that students check our available positions on Bird’s website as openings may arise off-cycle.

What are the work term lengths for student roles?

Work terms can vary in length from 4, 8, 12 or 16 months dependent on campus programs and hiring needs within the business.

What can I expect out of my internship at Bird?

Students are provided with meaningful and challenging work experiences through project work. Students are assigned to a Hiring Leader with industry experience who will manage the day-to-day activities. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to actively network within the organization, attend corporate events, and become brand ambassadors of the program.

Students learn by working closely with other skilled resources at Bird Construction. Every day, students will enhance their knowledge, skills and passion within their profession and the construction industry.

What qualities do you look for in a candidate?

HUMBLE: Ideal team players are humble. They lack excessive ego or concerns about status. Humble people are quick to point out the contributions of others and slow to seek attention for their own. They share credit, emphasize them over self, and define success collectively rather than individually.

HUNGRY: Ideal team players are hungry. They are always looking for more. More things to do. More to learn. More responsibility to take on. Hungry people almost never have to be pushed by a manager to work harder, because they are self-motivated and diligent. They are constantly thinking about the next step and the next opportunity.

SMART: Ideal team players are smart. They have common sense about people. Smart people tend to know what is happening in a group situation and how to deal with others in the most effective way. They have good judgment and intuition around the subtleties of group dynamics and the impact of their words and actions.
