Defence Construction Canada engaged Bird for the construction of a new two-bay maintenance hangar, designed for the CC‑177 Globemaster III, one of the world’s largest aircraft. The 250,000‑square‑foot facility features a clear‑span interior reaching 13 storeys in height.
The project incorporated specialized safety measures to meet Bird’s standards and the Base’s operational requirements. Targeted for LEED® certification, the hangar included advanced technologies. The hangar features Canada’s first telescoping overhead maintenance platform and a foam fire‑suppression system designed to contain fires at their point of origin and prevent spread to adjacent aircraft.
