Potash Storage Facility

The two buildings boast storage capacity of approximately 405,000 tons of potash. The complexity of these buildings include over 85,000 tons of structural steel and a total of 20,920 cubic metres of concrete – nearly 14 football fields can fit inside these two buildings. The project included 61-metre long reclaim tunnels used to transfer the stored potash onto conveyors and out into trucks and railcars.

A large construction site features several cranes assembling a massive roof structure, with workers and vehicles visible below. The scene is set in an open area with trees in the distant background.

The building erection required extensive coordination and planning as the massive trusses – as long as 58 metres and weighing 44 tons each – were assembled using five 500-ton cranes. Bird’s ability to assess and analyze the multifaceted logistics helped to boost productivity and subsequently yield a shortened production schedule.
