Albian Sands Truck Shop Complex

The Albian Sands Project is a tar sands mine located approximately 80 km north of Fort McMurray.  This mine is one of the largest tar sands mines in the area. Bird  was awarded the contract to be the Design Builder for the new 80,000 square foot Truck Shop Complex.

This complex was designed to allow for washing and servicing of the 340-ton heavy haulers used in the mines. There are a total of  six service bays and one wash bay.  This building also contains a warehouse and parts department.  The second floor of the complex has offices for the mining operations staff. 

 

This was a very fast track project with the schedule allowing for 11 months to complete the design and construction of the complex.  The contract started October 2001 and its first milestone completion date of August 1 was met, as was the total completion date of September 15, 2002.
