The new two-storey building is to be specifically designed and constructed within the perimeter of the existing energized 500kV switchyard at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station to house the 500kV GIS switchgear, relay and battery equipment. This will replace the existing ABCBs in the Bruce B SS switchyard that are at end-of-life.

The scope of work for this project includes the installation of all GIS components on a time and material basis. This includes bus ducts, bridges, bays/risers, circuits, etc. as well as all miscellaneous metals/structural steel. The scope of work is both within the GIS building itself as well as throughout the existing switch yard. The concrete foundations and associated grounding for the bus supports are being performed by Bird under a separate contract. Bird has subcontracted Stuart Olson to perform the labour scope.
