The new two-storey building was specifically designed and constructed within the perimeter of the existing energized 500kV switchyard at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station to house the 500kV GIS switchgear, relay, and battery equipment. This replaced the existing ABCBs in the Bruce B SS switchyard that were at end-of-life.
The scope of work for this project included the installation of all GIS components on a time and material basis. This included bus ducts, bridges, bays/risers, circuits, and all miscellaneous metals/structural steel. The scope of work was carried out both within the GIS building itself and throughout the existing switchyard. The concrete foundations and associated grounding for the bus supports were performed by Bird under a separate contract. Bird subcontracted Stuart Olson to perform the labour scope.
