National Defence Area Support Unit

Project Overview

Bird constructed a new technical support complex for the Department of National Defence Area Support Unit (ASU) London. The project is a multi-purpose building that includes medical and dental clinics, service bays, vehicle bays and warehouse space. The scope of work also included demolishing an existing building and upgrading the site infrastructure at Wolseley Barracks.

The project was divided into two phases. The first phase permitted consolidation of the operations of the unit, which reduced the land and building area occupied by ASU London by facilitating the relocation of the military units previously housed at the Highbury Complex. Phase two involved the renovation of Building 50, which is home to DCC ASU London and 31 Canadian Brigade group headquarters.

The facility is divided into three distinct zones: a naval boarding training area dedicated to specialized training and simulators for naval boarding operations, a ceremonial drill hall section designed for ceremonial drills and other large-scale activities, and an instructional/office zone that includes classrooms and office spaces for instructional purposes and administrative work.

The KIP – Phase 1 & 2

The KIP – Phase 1 & 2

Phase 1 is a 29-storey, high-rise residential condominium tower with 283 suites averaging from 500 to 900 sq. ft. Phase 2 includes similar amenities as Phase 1. Both towers are concrete structures with a façade made of pre-cast concrete and pre-cast masonry panels with floor-to-ceiling windows.
