The Deltaport expansion reinforced Vancouver’s position as a world class port of call. Bird delivered the majority of the building construction along with significant civil and specialty works, completing the project ahead of schedule through coordinated execution and technical expertise.
Key facilities included a 23,000 square foot, 100 foot high steel maintenance building for container cranes, equipped with an automatic high speed fabric door. The project also featured a customs-style access control gateworks facility, inground airport-style runway lighting, a design build sanitary waste treatment centre, and other specialized infrastructure essential to port operations.
Bird’s scope further encompassed extensive site development, including foundations, surfacing, curbs, sidewalks, fencing, reefer platforms, and supporting facilities. Additional work included the Deltaport-CP Rail Compressed Air Building, a prefabricated structure on a concrete slab with a fully integrated air compressor system, contributing to a highly functional and durable port facility.
