500 kV GIS and Relay Building

The new two-storey building is to be specifically designed and constructed within the perimeter of the existing energized 500kV switchyard at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station to house the 500kV GIS switchgear, relay and battery equipment. This will replace the existing ABCBs in the Bruce B SS switchyard that are at end-of-life.

As this is a schedule driven project, Bird investigated modification of the building envelope from the precast and developed an approach utilizing insulated metal panels and standing seam roof panels, which would ultimately allow for timely completion as per the owner’s requirements.

The scope of work consists of: cast-in-place concrete foundation, excavation and backfill, structural steel, metal cladding and roof panels, miscellaneous metals, slab-on-grade, raised access floor, all grounding of metal, HVAC, electrical, fire alarm systems, supply and install of gas-insulated switchgear, and turnover of main floor
