The Blackwater Gold Mine, developed by Artemis Gold Inc., is a greenfield gold mining and processing facility located in central British Columbia. The Blackwater Gold claim contains 334 million tonnes of gold resources, comprising both low-grade and high-grade ore.

The first stage of this project involved developming the mining and processing infrastructure to handle 16,438 tonnes of ore per day (6.0Mtpa), with plans for a future upgrade to 12.0 Mtpa. Construction of the facility included civil works, concrete foundations, structural steel and building installation, mechanical equipment installation, piping, electrical, instrumentation, controls and pre-commissioning services.
Bird was contracted to provide Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) services for the facility’s construction. As part of this ECI arrangement, we contributed early input into critical planning and scheduling and supported our client during early project planning phases.
Our ECI deliverables included:
- Developing and refining the project schedule
- Evaluating areas of opportunity
- Constructability reviews
- Creating a construction execution plan
- Preparing construction work packages
- Providing a project estimate
- Performing project risk reviews
- Developing an Indigenous engagement plan
- Preparing local labour resource plan
Following the successful completion of the ECI phase, Bird constructed all underground infrastructure and foundations, ensuring the project progressed out of the ground on schedule.
