The LEED® Gold facility consists of twin arenas, a theatre, daycare, library, competition pool, leisure pools, dive tank, hot tubs, water slides, lazy river, second floor running track, fitness area, gymnasium, three courts, multiuse rooms, and administration areas. This project features a Myrtha pool RenoVaction system, a first for a competition pool in Calgary. This state-of-the-art modular system utilizes a stainless-steel alloy and PVC laminate for
the pool walls, which offers the advantage of requiring less maintenance than a typical tiled pool. Bird also installed a surfing simulator system, “Flowrider” - another first for Calgary. The site features a 600-stall parking lot to accommodate future plans to have the city’s LRT system extend to the Seton neighbourhood.

The undulating roof design required unique steel connections which resulted in considerable coordination between the joist supplier and the structural steel supplier erector. Bird & the subtrades developed cost effective methods to ensure that the mechanically fastened decking was full bearing on the top chord of the joists.

The YMCA is a shining example of Bird’s ability to manage complex projects with a large and diverse group of subcontractors and stakeholders.
