Highlands School Modernization and Addition
Modernization and full mechanical & electrical upgrade of the original 1914 historic school, including full renovations of classrooms, library and gymnasium. The scope of work also comprised demolition of the current extension built in 1956, along with all abatement work, and construction of a new 4500 square metre addition to provide much needed classroom space. Work also included landscaping the site, paving access roads and parking lots. Work was performed while the school remained operational, with students present, so work was phased and spaces were turned over as they became available. This ensured minimal impact of construction on school operations.
The original timeline proposed by Edmonton Public Schools was challenging. In light of that fact, Bird recognized that the best way to successfully meet the deadline was to identify schedule milestones as early as possible. To achieve this and set the project up for success from the beginning, Bird implemented Pull Planning.
This project was completed August 2021 in time for the start of the new school year.
