Humber College Centre for Technology & Innovation
The new centre for technology and innovation (CTI) is located at the existing Humber College North Campus and will house functional areas for the applied research and advancements in technology and innovation, including modernized classrooms and labs to support hi-tech industrial and manufacturing equipment for student and industry partners. Achieving LEED® Platinum and Toronto Green Standard (TGS) Tier 1, the facility is also using BIM technology. The use of BIM modeling in developing the project helps the college and the stakeholders visualize their project, designers are able to test alternatives and trade contractors can plan their work more effectively, ultimately staying on schedule and on budget.
The structure consists of grade beams on caissons, cast-in-place concrete structure with structural steel roof and penthouse. The interior will house a range of collaborating spaces. In the spirit of the exchange of ideas, Bird and our design team collaborated in the development and implementation of C.LIVE, the flagship building app designed for Humber that will be used as a navigation tool to provide information about how the unique spaces of the centre and how they are being constructed.
