Personal Care Home Retrofit

The Personal Care Home Interior Retrofit project was set in place to create much needed visitation rooms to be used throughout the global pandemic. The project scope included creating visitation rooms for 11 personal care homes throughout the city of Winnipeg. Each location received at least one vestibule and one visitation room roughly 400-600 sq. ft. Out of the 11 homes, three care required two visitation rooms.

What sets this project apart is the negatively pressurized rooms which facilitates air movement away from the resident and towards the visitors to prevent the spread of COVID-19. New and separate HVAC system were installed for each room with supply air tempered and filtered. The rooms were steel stud and gypsum wall board construction with aluminum framed doors.

Need was immediate and the fast-track project delivery during a pandemic was a challenge. Lead time on materials were tremendously impacted, therefore, our team prioritized purchasing long lead items and materials before budget numbers were finalized. The consulting teams expedited reviews within 24 hours’ time to fast track HVAC equipment procurement. Bird empowered superintendents to make decisions on the fly to help drive tight schedule and deliver on time and on budget.
