University of Alberta East Campus Village Laneway
The University of Alberta East Campus Village Residence project is the newest residence in the East Campus Village precinct.
It was a design build development and construction project for a new student residence building in this precinct. The residence is a five-storey concrete building with approximately 300 beds organized in four and six bedroom units. Central communal spaces allow students to relax, study or socialize. Located within tight site boundaries and an
active campus, a 290 ft. luffing crane was used to accommodate site logistics. Stuart Olson also self-performed 100% of the concrete works.
Delivered utilizing the design-build model, collaboration between Stuart Olson, the University of Alberta, and the end user group was apparent during design and preconstruction. Student engagement during the design phase proved instrumental and influential to determining the requirements and overall design of the facility. Changes to project scope at the commencement of the project, as well as energy management initiatives pursued by the client, resulted in a budget increase.
