Bird was responsible for the installation of approximately 22 kilometres of four-inch flex pipe pipeline for sour gas transport and three-inch flex pipe pipeline for produced water, along with associated risers and tie-ins. Horizontal directional drilling sleeves were high density polyethylene pipe and were fused on site.
The scope of work included clearing/grubbing, horizontal directional drilling for crossings, and the installation of pipeline segments using the plowing method and conventional open-cut. The plowed section of pipeline was completed utilizing a specialized plow and winch that plowed the pipe in place with a single pass in lieu of an open-cut excavation.
The utilization of the cutting-edge innovative trenching solutions technology reduced the project duration, as well as ensured a significantly smaller construction footprint, better depth consistency and more stability than traditional trenching and excavation methods.
