Bird Construction completed the multi-phase renovations to the 9th and 12th floors in the City of Calgary’s municipal building for the Law Department and Corporate Properties and Buildings Department. The purpose of the project was to bring together all employees from each department to one floor. Bird’s scope of work consisted of demolition and renovation, including mechanical, electrical, audio visual, millwork and finishes.
Some of the challenges the Bird team experienced included an aggressive schedule while the rest of the building remained operational throughout the entire project. Careful planning and scheduling were the fundamental parts of the project success. Ongoing communication with the staff and strategic sequencing of the work, including night work, ensured minimal disruption. Phased construction also eased the transition for employees, as no one spent an extended amount of time in swing spaces.
Targeting LEED Silver certification, the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
