Bird’s scope of work included renovating the existing East Hants Sportsplex and providing additional upgrades including a second ice surface with a seating capacity of 280. The new glass entrance and lobby area to the addition draws attention as the wall of glass and expressed roofline give the building an appropriate scale from the street.
It took the team a mere three days to maneuver and assemble the tilt-up panels for the ice surface arena before securing with steel reinforcement. The facility also has multi-purpose community rooms, fitness rooms, and a 8,361-square-metre air-supported field house, complete with a regulation soccer field. A state-of-the-art refrigeration plant recovers waste heat from heating and cooling of all areas of the building including the field house.
