The Line 3 Replacement Program involved the replacement of pipeline and construction of 18 pump stations between Hardisty, AB to Superior, WI. Bird’s portion of the project included the construction of seven pump stations in various locations throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Line 3 Replacement Program involved the replacement of pipeline and construction of 18 pump stations between Hardisty, AB to Superior, WI. Bird’s portion of the project included the construction of seven pump stations in various locations throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The pump station construction included fabrication, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical works. This also included the tie into the mainline, and additional large bore piping, small bore piping, electrical, pump installation, pipe supports, structural steel platforms, cable tray supports, cable installation, instrument installation and all supporting civil works.
The Line 3 Replacement Program is an important maintenance project that reflects Enbridge’s commitment to safety and risk mitigation in the communities and environment in which they operate, and therefore, Indigenous community engagement and participation was the major part of the project execution strategy. Through Bird’s strong Indigenous Relations, the project was able to realize the following:
- $1,212,525 in total direct wages
- 42 Indigenous direct hires for Bird
- 31 Indigenous direct hires for subcontractors
- 25% overall spend with Indigenous businesses
