Working within an existing penal institution with operational security, Bird constructed a new two-storey expansion to the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre. The addition is comprised of a medium security cell block and support services space, which brings the total capacity of the correctional centre to over 500 inmates.

Construction of the medium security level and containment areas are non-combustible construction including grout-filled reinforced masonry and concrete. Bird’s work included compact piles for cast-in-place foundations and structural steel frame. Security screening was a requirement for all construction and management personnel involved with the project.
