Mission Institution is a medium security federal institution within the Correctional Service of Canada and is located in Mission, British Columbia. Bird Construction completed the new 3,200 square metre, 96-bed two-storey addition.

The new institution is located adjacent to the existing penitentiary, resulting in stringent security requirements that had to be met by all contractors working on the site. Security clearances had to be pre-approved for all workers. A security gate/sally port was also constructed to screen workers, sign in tools and equipment and perform random security searches.

During construction, the Bird team worked closely with the end-user group to ensure the new facility reflected their expansion needs. The team successfully completed the facility on time so the building could immediately be occupied.
