The Air Operations Centre is the only Canadian surveillance node in the North American Air Defence System. The project included many unique and complex features related to the stringent security requirements. The building includes hundreds of kilometres of electrical and communications cable, multiple back-up generators, classified surveillance systems, USAF secure facilities, a cryptology centre and battle stations. The centre is designed to support air force personnel and equipment assigned to provide surveillance, identification, control and warning for the defence of North American airspace.
