The facility is located on the Horizon Oil Sands plant site, approximately one and a half hours north of Fort McMurray. Bird worked closely with the client and consultants in the design stage to meet all functional requirements with a cost effective design. Special features of the project include the installation of stacking fabric doors at the service bay area. The truck service shop is heated with large diesel-fired furnaces. Due to typical weather conditions in this area, energy units were mounted on the mezzanine inside the truck shop instead of on the roof, which is the traditional approach.
