The facility includes dressing rooms, a visitor centre, a community centre, food service areas, a curlers’ lounge and an upper floor that provides increased public space and viewing of both ice sheets.
During the demolition phase, Bird encountered unexpected soil contamination. With a tight deadline to expedite the piling, pouring and forming of the concrete foundations before the winter frost, the discovery of contaminated soils complicated the project significantly. To mitigate the threat to the already tight schedule, Bird worked closely with an Environmental Coordinator to segregate the contamination prior to remediation.
