As the design-builder Bird expanded the existing MRM truck shop, originally designed and built by Bird in 2002. The addition accommodates the maintenance of the large trucks and additional heavy equipment used in the mining process. The expansion included eight service bays, two welding bays, three wash bays, a warehouse, a two-storey administration building and a locker room for over 300 workers.

During construction Bird achieved its ultimate goal of zero lost time incidents. The team worked with Shell operations personnel and other key stakeholders to create and maintain an elevated culture of safety. The project recorded over 276,000 man- hours during 550 consecutive days without a single loss time injury or medical aid occurrence.
