The truck shop is constructed from insulated steel panels and a cement-based metallic-aggregate floor topping that provides heavy-duty protection to areas subject to extreme abrasion and impact.

Suncor’s primary concern was ensuring that the mine operations were not interrupted during the construction of this addition. Bird addressed this requirement by separating the project in two ways. First, a 24-metre temporary fire wall was erected to separate the new addition from the existing truck shop area. This allowed the existing shop to continue to operate without any disturbances while work progressed on the addition. Second, the new addition was made operational prior to commencing any renovation work in the existing facility.
