The three level coker is supported by a 4,600-cubic-metre concrete base. The base was poured over an 18 hour period with 460 truck loads of concrete from five batch plants, eight concrete pumps, and extremely close coordination amongst the owner, consultant and Bird.

Bird worked closely with the designers on the use of DYWIDAG bars to replace the traditional highly congested reinforcing steel in the columns. This alternate provided a higher quality concrete structure that was safer to construct due to less handling of steel and fewer labour hours expended.
