The West End Water Pollution Control Centre project includes 2,044 square metres of new construction including a round concrete Secondary Clarifier with new mechanism and a fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) dome cover, two covered round concrete primary sludge fermenters with mechanisms, and a conventional concrete/steel/masonry building that houses two dissolved air flotation (DAF) thickeners and polymer and ferric chloride dosing systems. Bird self-performed all concrete work on this project totaling about 2,450 cubic metres.
The major challenge for the team at this site was completing the required work while allowing continued operation of the plant. In addition to ongoing commissioning meetings, there were hours of scheduling and coordinating to plan the various stages of the project required to ensure its completion.
