The LEED® Silver certified plant uses biological nutrient removal technology and is equipped with a composting facility to further reduce its environmental footprint. With the region's rapid population growth, Bird continues to work with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo to institute further refinements, including a recent 10,870-square-metre upgrade to the facility. The upgrade included the installation of a distribution chamber used to distribute wastewater evenly to the drain field and associated piping for the treatment plant. Bird also constructed an additional access road for the growing facility to reduce traffic and to ensure ease of access for the disposal trucks.
