To accommodate the increasing population in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Bird bid and secured all four phases to upgrade the municipality's water treatment plant.
This project provides water service for a population of 133,000 and includes a new treated water reservoir that doubles existing capacity to 24,083 cubic metres (31,500 cubic yards).
Bird’s work included:
• Ultraviolet building
• Transformer upgrade
• Plant waste management system
• Clearwell reservoir and high lift pumping station
• A five-storey operations building
• Filter clarification expansion and chemical distribution
Through careful planning and execution, Bird ensured the work within the existing water treatment plant did not disrupt the city’s drinking water supply.
